The house of Veren Stamboljan, an imposing and richly decorated Revival period house is nicely situated on the south-eastern slope of Djambaz Tepe. It was built in the second half of the 19th c. and is a two - storey huge, symmetrical house. It was lavishly decorated in the past.
The house has a beautiful inner decoration – curved wooden ceilings in the rooms and the hall, decorated with geometrical patterns and tangles.
Since the 70-es and 80-es of last century it is known as the House of Painters in Plovdiv. The house was turned into a cultural hub and international cultural centre. Many outdoor art festivals, exhibitions and workshops have taken place here.
Since 2010 this house has hosted the permanent exhibition of paintings and mosaics of the renowned Plovdiv painter Dimitar Kirov- DiKiro.
He was born on 20 May 1935 in Istanbul and died on 23 October 2008 in Plovdiv. He was a graduate in Monumental and decorative painting from the Fine Arts Academy of Sofia. Dimitar Kirov belongs to the Plovdiv school of painters and is one of the most outstanding representatives of Bulgarian fine art of the 60s and the 70s of the 20th century. His artistic heritage is notable with its innovative spirit, his creative achievements being in the realm of fine arts and of decorative and monumental art: mural paintings, mosaics and sgraffito. The author is the winner of many national and international honours and awards. The exposition presents some of his masterpieces that illustrate different themes and stages of his art.
A series of mosaics is displayed in the yard, on the theme of the author’s favourite cities, while else in the Old town several murals can be seen as part of the city decoration.
