A partnership project brings together cultural organizations to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the birth of the great Plovdiv architect and researcher Hristo Peev

The energy of the slogan TOGETHER whirled Plovdiv one after another. This time the focus is on the celebration of the 130th anniversary of the birth of architect Hristo Peev. The initiators - Municipal Institute "Ancient Plovdiv" and Bulgarian Modernist Architecture, in partnership with the "Regional State Archives" Directorate - Plovdiv and the "Ivan Vazov" National Library - Plovdiv / "Ivan Vazov" National Library, unite to present to the residents of Plovdiv and the guests of the city an overview exhibition "CHRISTO PEEV: THE RESEARCHER, THE ARCHITECT, THE MAN". Organizations with a public function, whose mission is to preserve and protect cultural heritage, build togetherness. Their aim is to present a documentary account of a person whose research and creative activity has left both lasting traces in the appearance of Plovdiv and the region, as well as in the architectural memory of Bulgaria. The opening is on March 31 (Friday) at 18:00 at the Roman Stadium Square. The exhibition is realized with the financial support of KCM 2000 Holding.
The initiators of the celebrations in memory of Arch. Peev have planned a variety of events in the program: tours of the buildings designed by the prominent architect in Plovdiv, a talk and an extremely curious exhibition with dozens of archival documents and photos, author's drawings, projects and many other authentic materials. All this will happen in the month of April. This choice is not accidental - on April 1, 1969, the "Ancient Plovdiv" Administration (today the Municipal Institute) was established, and on April 18, the International Day for the Preservation of Cultural Monuments is celebrated. There is hardly a better month for the public to get to know the man to whom we owe the preservation of the revival houses in Plovdiv. Arch. Peev was the first to most actively research, document and fight, as a public figure, for their preservation since the 1930s. The time when many of the old houses are in bad condition, falling apart or being deliberately demolished for new construction. His invaluable work "The Plovdiv House during the Renaissance" is to this day the encyclopedia that everyone consults on questions about the original appearance of the old houses along the Three Hills. Today, some of them have a very changed appearance.
In addition to being a researcher, Hristo Peev is also a very productive architect, the author of hundreds of buildings in Plovdiv and the surrounding area. His architectural work remains in the shadow of his research works. The overview exhibition "HRISTO PEEV: THE EXPLORER, THE ARCHITECT, THE MAN" is an attempt to illuminate many of these buildings - wonderful modern projects of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, imbued with the most current trends of architecture of modernism. Facades cleaned of ornaments, flat roofs-terraces, functional distribution - all this is part of the repertoire of architect Hristo Peev. Not infrequently these days, his architectural work suffers the fate of the revival houses of his time: neglected, torn down for new construction, converted in an inappropriate way.
