For the first time, the Municipal Institute Ancient Plovdiv organizes an exhibition of postcards from its fund

The exhibition "We have mail for you" is on the occasion of March 25 - World Postcard Day, April 1 - the official registration of the "Ancient Plovdiv" Administration in 1969, and April 18 - the International Day for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage.

The exposition will be opened in Balaban House on March 24, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.

The collection of over 180 cards is a step back in time - from 1898, during the "golden period" of postcards (1895-1918), to 1935.

Visitors can see cards from Mecca, Athens, Paris, Constantinople, Edirne, Prizren, Jaffa, Kavala, Skopje, Thessaloniki, Mount Athos, Fr. Tenedos, Veles, Patras, Belgrade, Lyon, Plovdiv, Sofia, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, the Rila Monastery, the church "St. Sofia" in Constantinople, the monastery "St. Pavel" in Mount Athos, the Old Stone Bridge over the Vardar River, the historic triumphal arch and the church of "St. Sofia" in Thessaloniki and many other iconic places of the world.

Today, in the age of digital technology, postcards are somewhat forgotten. They have been replaced by "virtual" cards with standard messages, very often unified.

The thrill of holding a postcard that has retained the smell of a steam locomotive or traveled thousands of miles across an ocean to reach its creator is something else.

With the exhibition "We have mail for you", Municipal Institute "Old Plovdiv" takes a step back in time to show buildings, streets, historical landmarks, photos from different cities and corners of the world, with the idea of adding a little romance to our hectic everyday life and in today's digital world.
